The Solution

The burst was a 15mm copper pipe that had frozen and split at an elbow joint. The repair involved cutting out the damaged section and fitting a new copper elbow with compression fittings, which avoided the need for soldering in a confined space. The pipe run was then fully lagged along its accessible length to reduce the risk of a repeat.
Before leaving, we ran the system for 20 minutes to test the repair under normal pressure, confirmed there were no other weak points in the visible pipe runs, and provided a written report with photographs for the homeowner's insurance claim. We also advised on the next steps for drying out the loft before the insurer's assessor visited.
